Tap Into the Body’s Innate Self-Healing and Self-Regulating Capacities for Greater Health and Well-being With Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a wholistic complementary health care modality that works with the body’s innate self-healing and self-regulating capacities to bring about greater health. Osteopathic Manual Therapy corrects asymmetries and restrictions to motion in all tissues of the body, allowing your body to function at its best capacity.
As a skilled and experienced practitioner, my mission is to help you achieve your health goals, whether you are looking to improve your performance, recover from an injury, or bring more balance to your body. Through personalized care and tailored treatment plans, I aim to enhance your well-being, promote recovery, and improve your overall quality of life.
My clients range from professional athletes, artists, performers, and executives who value their privacy and health.
With a long academic career studying the natural world, I have traversed the realms of plants, animals, and humans. I have achieved my Master’s in Osteopathic Manipulative Sciences (M.OMSc) from the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy. The M.OMSc is a four-year study in osteopathic manual therapy, osteopathic philosophy, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology, which included 1000 hours of clinical practice.
My broad educational background includes an Honours Bachelor of Science Double Major in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and Zoology (Hon. BSc) from the University of Toronto, providing me with a deep understanding of the interconnectedness of the body and its healing potential.
In addition to my professional pursuits, I find solace in the great outdoors and appreciate the arts, including theatre and opera. As an avid gesneriad grower and board member of the Greater New York Gesneriad Society of New York City, I find joy in nurturing and connecting with nature.
I am committed to providing you with safe, exceptional care and helping you achieve optimal health and well-being. Let me guide you on your journey to feeling and moving better.

There are many osteopathic manual therapy techniques that can be used in your session. These techniques are safe, gentle, and effective. Every session begins with an assessment to customize your healing process.
This gentle technique focuses on the craniosacral system, which includes the bones, tissues, and cerebrospinal fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. It aims to improve the flow and balance of cerebrospinal fluid, promoting overall health and well-being.
This technique involves the active participation of the patient, who engages specific muscles in a controlled manner against counterpressure from the practitioner. It is used to restore balance and flexibility, address muscular imbalances, and improve joint function.
This technique targets the fascial system, a network of connective tissues that surround and support muscles, bones, and organs. By applying gentle pressure and stretching, myofascial release aims to release restrictions, relieve pain, and restore mobility.
These techniques focus on stimulating the lymphatic system, which helps remove waste and toxins from the body. Lymphatic drainage techniques promote lymph flow and can be beneficial for reducing swelling, supporting immune function, and enhancing overall health.
These techniques involve skilled movements of the joints of the jaw to restore proper alignment, enhance joint mobility, and reduce pain.
Also known as positional release technique, strain/counterstrain involves finding tender points or areas of pain and positioning the body in a way that relieves strain on those areas. This technique helps reduce pain, release tension, and restore normal muscle function.
This technique involves gentle, specific manual movements to address restrictions and imbalances within the organs and surrounding tissues. Visceral manipulation aims to improve organ function, enhance mobility, and support overall health.
This technique focuses on evaluating and adjusting the tension within ligaments. By addressing imbalances in ligamentous tension, it aims to improve joint stability, mobility, and overall structural integrity.

Once cleared by your surgeon, we can address post-surgical swelling, pain, and mobilization.

Before you receive Manual Therapy, consult your medical doctor for clearance. If you have any imaging that you think would be helpful to share, please bring that with you. I am not a medical doctor and can not prescribe medication or images.
Wear loose-fitting clothing like you could do yoga or work out in – no dresses, skirts, or jeans. Clothing needs to be loose-fitting or stretchy, not restrictive. Bring a hair tie if you have long hair. You can bring a change of clothing, if necessary. You will remain clothed for the entire session.
Osteopathic manual therapy is a hands-on modality. I will be using my hands to move and manipulate your body while you lay on a massage table. Client safety, comfort, and privacy are paramount. Clients most often feel a sense of relaxation and release during treatment – it isn’t uncommon to fall asleep. Some techniques can cause temporary discomfort, however, we will always be in communication to adjust pressure as needed.
If at all possible, please avoid strenuous physical exertion for several hours after a session. You may feel tired and thirsty afterward, so please try to rest and drink plenty of fluids as needed. It may be common for the body to be somewhat sore for 24 to 36 hours after a session. However, if the pain lasts any longer than that please contact Joel.
